Tier 5 Temporary worker

If you are an employer in the UK and willing to sponsor temporary employee, he/she may be eligible to come and work in the UK for a short period. Applicant will need to apply for a visa under Tier 5 of the points-based system. To be able to apply for a visa under most Tier 5 categories, applicant must have a job offer from a licensed sponsor (you), and applicant must pass a points-based assessment.

There are 6 categories of skilled worker under the points-based system:

  • Tier 5 (Temporary worker - creative and sporting)
  • Tier 5 (Temporary worker - charity workers)
  • Tier 5 (Temporary worker - religious workers)
  • Tier 5 (Temporary worker - government authorised exchange)
  • Tier 5 (Temporary worker - international agreement)
  • Tier 5 (Youth mobility scheme)

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - creative and sporting)

The creative and sporting worker category is for people coming to the UK to work or perform as sportspeople, entertainers or creative artists for up to 12 months. If applicant is a sportsperson, he/she must be internationally established at the highest level in his/her sport, and/or his/her employment must make a significant contribution to the development and running of sport at the highest level in the UK.

To be able to apply, applicant must score a total of 40 points and meet all the other requirements of the Immigration Rules.

  • 30 points - for having certificate of sponsorship
  • 10 points - for maintenance funds.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - charity workers))

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - charity workers) category for people coming to do voluntary (unpaid) work for a charity in the UK.The work must be directly related to the sponsor organisation's work.

To be able to apply, applicant must score a total of 40 points and meet all the other requirements of the Immigration Rules.

  • 30 points - for having certificate of sponsorship
  • 10 points - for maintenance funds.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - religious workers)

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - religious workers) category is for people coming to the UK to work temporarily as a religious worker.

To be able to apply, applicant must score a total of 40 points and meet all the other requirements of the Immigration Rules.

  • 30 points - for having certificate of sponsorship
  • 10 points - for maintenance funds.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - government authorised exchange)

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - government authorised exchange) category is for people coming to the UK through approved schemes that aim to share knowledge, experience and best practice, and to experience the UK's social and cultural life.This category must not be used to fill job vacancies or to bring unskilled labour to the UK.

To be able to apply, applicant must score a total of 40 points and meet all the other requirements of the Immigration Rules.

  • 30 points - for having certificate of sponsorship
  • 10 points - for maintenance funds.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - international agreement)

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - international agreement) category is for people coming to the UK under contract to do work that is covered under international law. Thisincludes workers under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and similar agreements, employees of overseas governments and international organisations, and private servants in diplomatic households.

  • 10 points - for maintenance funds.
